
What are the benefits?
Massage during pregnancy not only relieves everyday tension and general aches and pains, but it can help to relieve headaches, alleviate backaches and leg cramps, reduce fatigue and enhance sleep.
How is it performed?
Pregnancy is performed with the client positioned on her side. The client will be supported by pillows or bolsters and will be properly draped throughout the massage.
What techniques are used?
Depending on how far along the client is in her pregnancy, the therapist may utilize Swedish massage techniques, myofascial release, or Reiki. No deep tissue work can be performed on a pregnant client.
When should massage during pregnancy be avoided?
Women with normal low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage therapy. However, there are always certain cases in which massage is contraindicated. It is very important to receive an obstetrician's approval before receiving any form of massage durning pregnancy.
Pre-natal massages will not be scheduled for longer than one hour.
