How is it performed?
Pregnancy massage is
performed with the client positioned on her side, or in a semi-reclining position. In both positions the client will
be supported by pillows or special cushions and will be properly draped throughout the massage.
What techniques are used?
Depending on how far
along the client is in her pregnancy, the therapist may utilize Swedish massage, reflexology, or reiki.
When massage during pregnancy be avoided?
Women with normal low-risk
pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage therapy. However, there are always certain cases in which massage is contraindicated.
It is very important to receive an obstetrician's approval before receiving any form of massage during pregnancy.
